Though a nicely made rifle and straight shooter it is defiantly my most disliked Muzzleloading rifle due to the heavy trigger and rather poor preforming lock. I would not buy another single trigger only, though would if it had the double set ... I use the rear tang screw and if needed, drill and tap a new whole in the tang. Some of the TC rifle and some of the Pedersoli's come with a hole already there, but of not, do not panic, it's an easy 5 minute job to drill and tap a 6/32 or 8/32 hole. For just the lock, I haven't found detailed instructions anywhere. Most of it seems pretty straightforward, except for the serpentine. I was considering using a blow torch to bend it in shape, heat the head, and then hit it mostly flat with a big ball peen hammer to try and make the match holder.Similarily, 1860s are .44s. The smaller sized, but similar looking 1861 is a .36. IMO, .44s are ungainly and overly heavy. While .36s are svelte and graceful... On top of all that, .36s are also more economical to shoot. When the shot leaves the muzzle it will open the pattern at very close range. The shot will most likely be damaged to add to poor shooting.
